A post displaying the PlayStation Network logo suggests that the collaboration between Discord and PlayStation is nearing fruition.
The alliance was initially revealed in March 2021, with both companies expressing enthusiasm about bringing Discord’s chat functionalities to the PlayStation universe. Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), outlined the vision behind this collaboration. He emphasized the intent to meld Discord and PlayStation experiences, not only on the consoles but also through the PlayStation app available on smartphones. This app currently supports voice and text chats for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users.
“Our goal is to bring Discord and PlayStation experiences closer to both console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing together,” Ryan explained. With Discord’s integration, PlayStation users will enjoy enhanced communication capabilities. The platform will enable them to engage in both voice and text chats, connecting with friends across different platforms, including PC and Xbox, where Discord is already a staple in the gaming community.
