‘D&D’s Mindflayer and Owlbear now on postage stamps officially approved by King Charles’

In an exciting announcement for both gaming enthusiasts and philatelists, the Royal Mail has launched a distinctive collection of postage stamps celebrating the iconic universe of Dungeons & Dragons. This collection features some of the most beloved creatures and characters from the realm of D&D, including the enigmatic Mindflayer and the formidable Owlbear, both popularized further by their appearances in Baldur’s Gate 3.

The collection doesn’t stop there; it encompasses a myriad of mystical entities such as the Gelatinous Cube, Mimic, Displacer Beast, and the notorious Vecna. Additionally, it commemorates a diverse band of player characters – a tiefling rogue, a human bard, a halfling cleric, an elf fighter, a dwarf paladin, and a dragonborn wizard, bringing the fantastical world of D&D to life on stamps.

The entire set is available in a “presentation pack,” priced at £24.40, ready to be dispatched starting 25th July. For collectors looking to further indulge, the Royal Mail offers an array of D&D themed stamp merchandise, including three exquisite enlarged prints, each fetching £150.

This initiative arises from a collaboration between Hasbro and the Royal Mail, marking a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons – a game that has defined the roleplaying genre and captured the imaginations of millions around the globe. “We’re delighted to unveil this magnificent collection of stamps, graced with the official approval of HM King Charles III, to celebrate the golden anniversary of the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game,” remarked Dan Rawson, the global play leader at Wizards of the Coast. He added, “Featuring the incredible artistry of Wayne Reynolds, a veteran Dungeons & Dragons artist, these stamps capture the essence of adventure and the myriad beings that inhabit our beloved game. They are bound to be cherished by fans of D&D and collectors of unique stamps.”

The timing of the stamp collection’s release aligns perfectly with significant milestones within the Dungeons & Dragons community, notably the 50th-anniversary celebrations and the final phase of updates for Baldur’s Gate 3. The upcoming game patch introduces console modding capabilities, a move seen as passing the torch to fans, allowing them to further personalize their gaming experience. This development showcases the sustained relevance and evolving legacy of Dungeons & Dragons, ensuring that the game continues to inspire and engage new generations of players.

This stamp collection not only pays homage to a game that has become a cornerstone of fantasy roleplaying but also immortalizes its rich history and influence in a form that can be held, collected, and treasured. It represents a confluence of pop culture and historical commemoration, solidifying the legacy of Dungeons & Dragons in an unprecedented manner.
