Instagram, Threads, Whatsapp and more are still experiencing issues
Various services and applications under Meta’s umbrella, such as Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Messenger, continue to grapple with technical difficulties. These issues follow a significant disruption that left users unable to log into their accounts or load Meta’s web platforms.
Users across several social media platforms have reported challenges in accessing and utilizing these applications. Even Meta’s official website displayed a rather cryptic message, stating, “This page isn’t available right now.”
The outage’s impact is widespread, with more than 90,000 cases reported on a popular outage-tracking site for Facebook alone. Current updates indicate that Whatsapp, Threads, and Messenger are also encountering similar problems. It’s evident that these disruptions are not limited to just one service but are pervasive across many of Meta’s offerings.
Meta’s status page, which provides updates for enterprise clients, details “major disruptions” affecting nearly all of its APIs as well as its advertising tools. This indicates a substantial malfunction across the board.
When inquiries were made to Meta regarding the situation, they responded with a succinct acknowledgment of the ongoing issues.
The last significant outage faced by Meta occurred in March 2024, when users were unable to access the company’s apps and services for a duration of two hours. Back then, the interruption was ascribed to a “technical issue” by one of Meta’s communications directors, a similar justification being used by Meta officials for today’s problems. However, there remains no clear timeline as to when the current issues will be completely resolved.
Efforts are ongoing to address these disruptions, with an update provided at 4:50 PM ET on December 11, 2024, emphasizing the extent and implications of the outage on Meta’s suite of enterprise tools.
