Threads will show how many followers you have in the fediverse
Meta has been steadily enhancing Threads’ compatibility with the fediverse over the past year. The company is now introducing a notable update that enables users to access more detailed information about their followers and interactions with individuals from various servers across the fediverse.
Previously, Threads highlighted replies from Mastodon and other servers, and notified users about likes on their posts from different fediverse apps. However, there was no functionality for Threads users to view details about their followers from those services. This aspect is now evolving, as Adam Mosseri elaborated in a post.
With the latest update, users who have opted-in for fediverse sharing on Threads will be able to see a comprehensive list of their followers from other servers and inspect their profiles. This feature will provide Threads users with a clearer understanding of their reach and audience on Mastodon and other applications.
While Threads’ support for the fediverse remains somewhat restricted, significant advancements have been made. Users still face limitations such as being unable to reply to responses originating from apps outside of Threads, and they cannot search for individuals on other servers from within Threads. Additionally, there is a delay in cross-posting; currently, it takes 15 minutes for a post from Threads to appear. Simultaneously, Meta has extended the editing window for posts.
In other news, third-party developers are also simplifying the experience for users looking to post on multiple decentralized services. A new application named Croissant facilitates simultaneous cross-posting to Threads, Mastodon, and Bluesky. This paid app, designed to mimic the functionality of enterprise social media management tools, ensures a smooth posting experience across various platforms.
As Meta continues to refine Threads’ interoperability with the fediverse, these updates indicate substantial progress towards a more unified and user-friendly ecosystem.
