New Pixel 10 Pro Details Confirm Google’s Powerful Upgrade
As Google’s Pixel 9a takes its place in the market, all eyes are shifting towards the much-anticipated release of the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro. Over the weekend, exciting new information emerged regarding Google’s ambitious plans for these new devices, promising enhanced performance that tech enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for.
These recent developments were unearthed from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code base. This code repository is crucial for manufacturers as they build their own Android variations, and it includes Google’s latest software advancements.
Valuable insights came from a Google engineer’s notes, left alongside the newly implemented code. The gains pointed to improved efficiency in the Pixel 10 series, particularly in a newly documented “parallel module loading” process. This enhancement comes into play during the device’s boot-up, resulting in a remarkable reduction in loading time by 30% for the Pixel 10 and 25% for the Pixel Fold.
The previous Pixel 9 series – encompassing the 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL models – all utilized the Tensor G4 Mobile chipset. With expectations that the Tensor G5 will power the upcoming models, the noted 30% performance increase is anticipated as a consistent feature across the new series.
The engineering notes, while highlighting the speed enhancement, suggest a slightly lesser increase for a model identified as “Fold.” This could refer to an older Pixel Fold model, which was released without a specific model designation back in 2023. Alternatively, it might indicate the Pixel 9 Pro Fold from last year. However, it’s more likely that this refers to the anticipated Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and “10” could be a blanket identifier for the upcoming models while “Fold” indicates variations.
Considering the more compact structure of foldable devices, which naturally imposes certain physical limitations, the relatively smaller performance boost seems justifiable.
As these updates are now part of the main AOSP branch, this improvement is expected to ripple across the entire Android ecosystem over the next 12 to 18 months. However, Google’s Pixel smartphones, renowned for being the pioneers of the latest Android versions, will continue to set the benchmark for where Google envisions the future of its platform.
