Almost HALF of gamers think hours on a virtual track makes them better drivers
Enthusiasts who immerse themselves in racing video games believe that their virtual endeavors have enhanced their real-world driving skills, with many claiming it even expedited their journey to obtaining a driver’s license.
In a recent survey involving 1,000 motorists who indulge in driving simulations, 48% expressed the view that they are superior drivers compared to those who don’t game.
Half of the respondents reported heightened reaction times and an overall boost in driving safety. Moreover, 50% stated that their gaming experience contributed to a quicker success in passing their driving tests.
Participants also noted that their awareness of the road and ability to anticipate potential hazards were significantly sharpened through playing racing games.
Interestingly, three-quarters of those surveyed revealed they derive more excitement from virtual racing than from actual driving experiences.
According to a spokesperson for Hyundai, which organized the study to spotlight the audio technology in its new electric vehicle, the IONIQ 5 N, “It’s clear that fun and practicality are essential in design. As many as one-third of gamers admit that racing video games have influenced their choice of car model.”
The study further discovered that nearly two-thirds of participants perceive racing video games as closely mimicking real-life driving, particularly in terms of steering, control, cornering, and gear shifting.
However, only a quarter of respondents believe that the sound effects in racing games accurately represent real driving. Despite this, sound remains a pivotal aspect for more than three-quarters of gamers, and 30% regard it as the single most crucial element of the driving experience.
