‘Cheap dance moves’: Ram Charan-Kiara Criticized for Awkward Steps and Costumes in ‘Dhop’ from Game Changer

The much-anticipated film Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, has generated significant buzz as it approaches its release on January 10th next year. With the release of its teaser last month, audiences were left with mixed feelings, and the thrill surrounding Ram Charan’s projects seemed difficult to grasp.

Adding fuel to the discussion, the fourth track from Game Changer has been unveiled. Titled Dhop, the five-minute techno number, composed by Thaman S, reminds one of the vibrant scores typical of director Shankar’s films from the early 2000s. This track features both Ram Charan and Kiara Advani showcasing their dance skills amidst a futuristic backdrop that attempts to capture a distinctive aesthetic.

Despite the star-studded cast and dance talent, the reception was less favorable. Netizens took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the presentation, particularly critiquing the chemistry between the lead actors. The choreography faced severe backlash, with users labeling it “cringe and cheap.”

One viewer expressed their disapproval, describing it as “Cringe max pro choreography by Jaani master.” Another added, “Bizarre steps! So cringeworthy.” Such comments highlight the frenzied reactions from fans eager for a captivating dance spectacle.

The music video also includes guest appearances by notable personalities like choreographer Jani Master, who is currently under scrutiny due to legal issues, as well as a brief appearance by Chiranjeevi, who admires the dance sequences. The attempt at a robotic-like choreography matched with a sci-fi-inspired set design failed to resonate with much of the intended audience.

Commentary from fans pointed fingers at the creative direction behind the scenes. “The choreographer’s vision depends on the story and the director. We don’t know what the director is aiming for, but the results are peculiar,” commented one user. Another lamented, “The era of pan-Indian projects has jeopardized quality Hindi music and choreography. The industry needs a revival akin to the golden age.”

The song Dhop has a diverse set of vocal contributions from Thaman S, Raja Kumari, Prudhvi, and Sruthi Ranjani Modumudi. The Tamil lyrics were crafted by Vivek, with the Hindi adaptation penned by Raqueeb Alam. Upon release, a statement was issued to amp up enthusiasm, encouraging audiences to prepare for a “high voltage” experience with the lyrical presentation of Dhop from Game Changer.

This film marks Kiara Advani’s debut in South Indian cinema, which adds an additional layer of intrigue to its reception. As the release date approaches, it remains to be seen how these initial reactions will impact the film’s success in the broader cinematic landscape.
