HORIZON ZERO DAWN REMASTERED Releasing For PS5 And PC In October

Horizon Zero Dawn, first released in 2017, is getting a remastered edition. Announced during Sony’s State of Play, the remastered version of this acclaimed game will be available on October 31, 2024, for both PlayStation 5 and PC.

The decision to bring a remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn stems from the significant technological advancements over the last seven years. Jan-Bart van Beek, Studio Director and Studio Art & Animation Director at developer Guerilla, highlighted the desire to offer new players an experience that fully utilizes modern hardware capabilities. “Seven years is a long time in the world of computer graphics; technology improves,” van Beek said. “We wanted new players to experience Aloy’s origin story with a version worthy of their PS5 or compatible PC.”

The remastered edition promises numerous enhancements, leveraging the capabilities of newer technology. Among these are over 10 hours of re-recorded conversations, improved motion capture, and an entirely overhauled graphical presentation in stunning 4K resolution. Fast travel between settlements has been optimized for “lightning-fast” speeds, and the character models have been updated to reflect current generation advancements in rendering.

In addition to the visual upgrades, Guerilla has significantly enhanced the audio experience. The remaster will feature a revamped sound mix compatible with PS5 Tempest 3D Audio Tech for higher-order ambisonics and Atmos rendering, creating a more immersive soundscape.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered also takes advantage of the unique features of the DualSense controller, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Guerilla explained, “We’ve integrated custom haptics throughout the game, providing tactile feedback that heightens immersion. We’ve also introduced a new optional accessibility feature that utilizes sound and haptic feedback to notify players of interactable elements, such as pickups, that were previously only indicated visually.”

The remastered edition will also support the PlayStation 5 Pro, featuring a range of enhanced graphical options and delivering ultra-high fidelity visuals at blazing fast framerates.

The PC version brings its own set of features, including support for ultra-wide resolutions and the latest performance-enhancing technologies like NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1 with frame generation. A PlayStation overlay with Trophy support is also included for the PC users.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will be priced at $49.99 on the PlayStation Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Pre-orders will begin on October 3. For those who already own Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 and PC or the Complete Edition, a digital upgrade to the remastered version will be available for $9.99.
