Bell to Support Laser Computing Innovator with Financial Industry Market Strategy

TEL AVIV, Israel, April 08, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — LightSolver, the creator of a groundbreaking laser-based computing paradigm, has announced the appointment of Colin Bell, a veteran in the financial and banking sector, to its Advisory Board. He will assist LightSolver in developing its market strategy specifically for the financial industry and global enterprise sector.

Colin Bell is a renowned figure serving as a Non-Executive Director at Serendipity Capital. He previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank plc and HSBC Europe, and was also an Executive Director at HSBC Bank plc. Bell possesses extensive expertise in the banking and financial industries, having served as the Group Chief Compliance Officer and Group Head of Financial Crime Risk at HSBC Group. Additionally, he has experience as the Head of Compliance and Operational Risk Control at UBS, and has worked with the UK Ministry of Defence and NATO.

LightSolver has engineered an all-optical Laser Processing Unit™ (LPU) that leverages laser interactions to compute large and complex problems faster and more efficiently than advanced classical high-performance computing systems. The LPU operates at the speed of light and is particularly adept at handling computations that necessitate vast amounts of iterations, such as combinatorial optimization problems found in transport scheduling, production and supply chain optimization, trading and portfolio optimization, and physical simulations for computer-aided engineering (CAE) and scientific computations.

“The potential of LightSolver’s all-optical technology to solve intricate, compute-intensive challenges is extraordinary and can unveil new possibilities in the financial sector,” remarked Bell. “Many challenges across risk management, investment, and trading could see enhanced outcomes through this advanced computing approach. I am eager to collaborate with LightSolver to shape its offerings and provide impactful solutions for financial institutions and beyond.”

LightSolver recently declared a partnership with engineering software simulation provider Ansys, aiming to accelerate simulations for automotive, aerospace, and other industries. Additionally, it received a €12.5M grant from the European Innovation Council (EIC) to further develop its all-optical supercomputer.

“Colin Bell brings invaluable business acumen and a vast network across the financial and enterprise sectors,” said Ruti Ben-Shlomi, Ph.D., LightSolver CEO and co-founder. “His leadership experience in major institutions will be an essential asset as we elevate LightSolver’s commercial efforts and position our laser-based computing platform for adoption in real-world scenarios. We are thrilled to work with him to expedite our growth and bring transformative computing power to the industries that most need it.”

About LightSolver

LightSolver is at the forefront of developing an all-optical supercomputer, capable of solving complex and large-scale computational problems at unprecedented speeds—literally at the speed of light. By harnessing the interference patterns of lasers, the Laser Processing Unit™ (LPU) addresses challenges previously limited by the constraints of traditional electronics, all the while operating within a rack unit and at room temperature. The company was founded in 2020 by physicists Dr. Ruti Ben-Shlomi and Dr. Chene Tradonsky from the world-renowned Weizmann Institute. A formidable team comprising more than two-thirds of physics, math, and computer science PhDs form the backbone of LightSolver. Having secured investments from TAL Ventures, Entree Capital, IBI Tech Fund, Angular Ventures, Maverick, and Artofin, and receiving a €12.5M grant from the European Innovation Council (EIC), LightSolver is poised to advance its all-optical supercomputer.
