SOSAD Announcement: Messaging Service to Close – A “Heartbreaking” Decision
Providing support in times of need, SOSAD, a charity dedicated to suicide intervention and bereavement support, has shared some unfortunate news with their community. Due to insufficient funding, they’ve been compelled to close their messaging service, a resource that has been invaluable to many individuals, particularly in areas like Cavan.
While the challenges of limited resources and growing demand have been mounting over recent months, the decision to terminate the messaging platform is effective from Tuesday, March 4. The gravity of this decision and its impact on those relying on the service was addressed in a heartfelt message shared via social platforms: “We are devastated to announce that, as of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, our Messaging Service will close. This is a decision we never wanted to make, but with the lack of sustainable funding, difficult choices have had to be made to ensure we can continue providing the support we can.”
The closure of the messaging service hits hard as it had been “crucial to so many,” making its discontinuation truly disheartening. The organization emphasized ongoing efforts to persist in their mission: “We are fighting every day to keep SOSAD Ireland open, but the reality is that some services, like this one, simply cannot be maintained under the current circumstances.”
Despite this setback, SOSAD remains committed to its other services. The 24/7 Freephone Helpline will continue to operate, as will their complimentary counseling services. They urge those in a position to help, stating, “If you are able, please consider donating to us, every contribution helps us to continue supporting those who need it most.”
Supporters are encouraged to come forward and offer contributions that will allow SOSAD to extend their help to those in crisis; a plea that serves as a reminder of the significance and dependence many place on such charitable work.
This unfortunate development highlights the critical role of funding in sustaining mental health services and the continuous dedication required to support vulnerable communities. The community stands united in hopes of seeing the organization flourish once more, with sustained assistance and outreach programs.
