Asus Ascent GX10 packs supercomputer power into a tiny box
Asus has unveiled the Ascent GX10, a groundbreaking mini supercomputer crafted specifically to handle the demanding workloads of AI and machine learning. Packed with Nvidia’s GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, this machine marks a significant advance in the realm of AI computing.
The Ascent GX10 stands out with its unique incorporation of the Nvidia GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip. This innovative technology blends a 20-core, Arm-based CPU with a Blackwell GPU, producing an impressive performance of up to 1,000 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second). Such power makes it an ideal tool for edge computing and training sophisticated AI models.
Equipped with 128GB of unified memory, the Ascent GX10 is capable of handling enormous AI models, even those with up to 200 billion parameters. For applications that demand even more power, two GX10 units can be linked using Nvidia’s ConnectX-7 network interface. This configuration supports models with as many as 405 billion parameters, matching the capability of advanced models like Meta’s Llama 3.1.
Traditionally, high-performance AI computing has been restricted to expansive data centers because of the significant space, power, and cooling they require. The Ascent GX10, however, breaks this norm by offering a formidable AI system in a remarkably compact design. This allows researchers and developers to execute complex AI workloads efficiently without the need for vast infrastructure.
“By integrating the Nvidia Grace Blackwell Superchip, we are providing a powerful yet compact tool that enables developers, data scientists, and AI researchers to innovate and push the boundaries of AI right from their desks,” stated KuoWei Chao, General Manager of Asus IoT and NUC Business Group.
The versatility of the GX10 is another of its strengths. It can serve as a standalone workstation or be incorporated into private cloud environments, fitting seamlessly into the operations of AI startups, research institutions, and companies involved in AI model development.
As for the availability and pricing of the Ascent GX10, Asus has yet to release specific details. However, it is anticipated that the GX10’s market appearance will align with similar products, such as Nvidia’s Project Digits—a compact AI workstation introduced earlier this year with a price tag of $3,000. Like the Ascent GX10, Project Digits is crafted to deliver high-performance AI computing in smaller settings, making it likely they will debut around the same time.
