VERSES Secures IEEE Approval for Groundbreaking Spatial Web Standards

In an era where artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics are rapidly reshaping our world, the quest for standards that govern and enable seamless interoperability among these technologies has been paramount. Marking a significant milestone in this journey, VERSES AI Inc., a pioneer in cognitive computing technology, recently announced an exceptional achievement.

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, VERSES has been at the forefront of developing next-generation intelligent systems. The company proudly disclosed that the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards Association (IEEE-SA) P2874 working group’s members have cast their votes. The outcome? A resounding approval of two critical Spatial Web standards: the Hyperspace Modeling Language (HSML) and the Hyperspace Transaction Protocol (HSTP).

“We are honored that the IEEE working group members have approved HSML and HSTP as the global standards for AI, IoT, and robotic interoperability and governance,” expressed Gabriel René, CEO of VERSES. René elaborates on the significance of these standards, suggesting they could become as integral to tech interoperability as protocols like HTTP, WiFi, or Bluetooth have in the past. Echoing the sentiments of industry and government bodies, he emphasized the standards’ role in promoting the safe and rapid adoption of AI and autonomous technologies.

Introducing the Spatial Web – a hyper-connected network that integrates humans, machines, and intelligent systems in an ethically-aligned manner. HSML and HSTP stand out by providing a unified format for structuring multidimensional information, encompassing rules and guidelines essential for AI and systems interactions. This innovation not only fosters interoperability but also ensures a more streamlined, coordinated approach to technology governance.

VERSES has taken the lead in leveraging these new standards through its product, Genius™. This toolkit empowers developers to create intelligent software agents, enhancing applications with capabilities such as reasoning, planning, and learning. Unlike traditional generative AI platforms, Genius Agents are equipped with a dynamic “world model,” allowing for more accurate predictions and a shared understanding among a network of agents.

Theory meets practice as Hari Thiruvengada, VERSES’ Chief Product Officer, describes Genius. “Unlike generative AI platforms which simply remix content based on their training data, Genius Agents employ a ‘world model,’ akin to a mental schema, continuously refining to make better predictions,” Thiruvengada notes. This approach underscores a commitment to fostering a landscape where various software can effortlessly communicate and collaborate.

In recognition of its pioneering work, VERSES’ methodology, dubbed ‘First Principles AI’ by industry analyst Gartner, has garnered attention for its novel approach to artificial intelligence. This distinction highlights the numerous advantages of VERSES’ techniques over traditional machine learning, including enhanced system reliability and efficiency.

As the IEEE-SA moves towards publishing these standards officially, the P2874 working group is focusing on refining these protocols further, developing reference implementations, and exploring governance frameworks suitable for diverse industrial applications.

VERSES continues to push the boundaries of cognitive computing with Genius™, drawing inspiration from natural systems and neuroscience to create biologically inspired, distributed intelligence solutions. This venture not only transforms disparate data into comprehensive knowledge models but also promotes trustworthy collaboration across the digital and physical realms. With its eyes set on a future where technology enhances human potential, VERSES is leading the charge towards a smarter, more connected world.
